STARTING THE SOC 2 JOURNEY

ENGAGING A LIKE-MINDED AUDIT FIRM

To begin the SOC 2 process of looking for compliance and audit partners, Neal reached out to his network. From here, he was introduced to the team at Drata, who stood out as the ideal partner for compliance automation. When it came time to engage an audit firm, Drata referred FactorySense RFID to AssuranceLab. 

The deciding factors in signing with AssuranceLab were the Drata integration and the use of AI to automate the process. It felt like a natural fit for FactorySense RFID, whose business is also based on technology. 

AssuranceLab understood FactorySense RFID’s business model and goals from the start. They knew who FactorySense RFID was, what they did and what they needed. There was no back-and-forth just to understand the audit, which was clearly scoped from the beginning. Thus expediting the SOC 2 process.  

TECHNOLOGY-BACKED SOC 2 AUDIT

Traditionally, the SOC 2 process can be overwhelming. Throw in different time zones and a quick timeline and this process can go from overwhelming to something that seems impossible. Not for FactorySense RFID though.

The speed at which SOC 2 was achieved was a testament to the communication and professionalism of the AssuranceLab team and the way they integrated technology into their practices. 

“We were dealing with different time zones, but this honestly worked well. During the European day, the AssuranceLab team would review evidence and provide clear feedback on any areas that needed attention. When we came online to start the day in the United States, we had a slight cross-over to collaborate if needed, and then we had the rest of the day to action what had been clearly outlined for us. AssuranceLab then came back online to finalize the relevant items,” Neal said. 

What made the most difference to the team FactorySense RFID was having an auditor who “understood that we needed some flexibility because our customers demanded a tighter security posture, we needed to tighten down in a slightly different way than a traditional software company. There was no resistance from the AssuranceLab team who really understood what we needed and adapted accordingly,” said Neal. 

ACHIEVING SOC 2 IN 3.5 DAYS

Not set by a client deadline but rather by their aspirational goals, FactorySense RFID came to AssuranceLab looking to achieve SOC 2 as soon as possible. Rather than negotiating a set timeline, the team at AssuranceLab set their sights on the goal and got to work, ultimately achieving SOC 2 Type 1 in 3.5 days. This wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication of the AssuranceLab team and their AI-powered audits. 

An audit requires work from both sides, so when asked what Neal and the team at FactorySense RFID did to achieve this, he said, “The main thing was our headstrong and mission-focused attitude towards the goal. This was a whole organization effort with teams from engineering to customer success to accounting and finance, coming together to see it achieved.”

“The other thing is we already work with security-conscious companies, so our ground level of security practices was already higher than normal. When we had the first run with Drata we were already 88% complete before we even spoke to AssuranceLab,” he said.

FactorySense RFID has already seen the impact of its SOC 2 report, having sent it to its customer base. This verified proven commitment to security further assured their customer base of their commitment to privacy and security. The sales team has also seen the benefits of the SOC 2 report with it being used to expedite the sales cycle.
