As People & Culture Manager, I am in the most exciting position as I get to welcome so many brilliant new employees to AssuranceLab. A few months ago, I began to internally audit some of the different places our new joiners initially called "home" before moving to Australia and learning about some of the beautiful languages they spoke outside of English.

In 2017, when AssuranceLab was founded, our founders wanted to uphold the simple ethos of retaining a 1:1 ratio for hiring and growing our teams of employees identifying as male and female. This acted as a simple, foundational diversity metric we would uphold throughout the company's growth. This was done to challenge the industry norms across tech and cyber security, which was predominantly male-driven.

Fast forward to today in 2025, and not only do we continue to retain that foundational metric, but we are thrilled to report some further diversity metrics we are incredibly proud of. We asked our team lately to share and provide the flags of the country they called their origin, along with all of the languages they speak with varying proficiencies.

Diversity by the numbers (as of March 2025);
  • 45% of our team identifies as female (against the industry average of 25% in 2022, ISC2 diversity test).
  • Of our 51 staff members, we represent 18 different individual flags of origin countries. 50% of us originated from outside of Australia!
  • The team can speak 16 different languages, and most are fluent.
    Our newest recruit can speak six languages fluently!

So what does it all mean?

With so many different groups represented and languages spoken, our diversity enables us to bring a better understanding and different perspectives both internally and when assisting our client base. We keep growing as a business on a global stage, and our diversity helps us unlock this wider market reach by having a positive effect through communication and relatability.

We can confidently say that decisions are made in meetings from seeing a diverse range of perspectives and narratives. This enhances our overall decision-making and improves our response time.

There is still much more we can do as an organisation. Still, I am incredibly proud that we are on the right path to attracting these amazing people, regardless of background, origin or location.
